Terms of use and disclaimers
The rules for using RentLex: what the service is and is not, your responsibility, your content, our liability, and the law that applies.
1. What RentLex is, and what it is not
RentLex is an online service that helps tenants in Switzerland understand their lease and their rights, computes figures and deadlines from their documents on the basis of published Swiss law, and prepares documents they can review and send. RentLex provides information and documents, not legal advice. It is not a law firm, no lawyer-client relationship arises from its use, and it does not represent you before any authority or court. For complex or contested matters, consult a tenant association or a lawyer; RentLex will tell you when it thinks you should.
2. Beta status and legal review
During the beta, RentLex is provided free of charge and its content is under legal review. Figures, deadlines and documents may carry the status "under legal review"; they are computed from published law and tested software but have not yet been confirmed by external counsel. You use them at your own discretion. Features may change, be paused or be withdrawn without notice, and availability is not guaranteed.
3. Your responsibility
You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the documents and information you provide, for checking every document RentLex prepares before you use it, for signing and sending it, for meeting the deadlines that apply to you, and for the decisions you take. RentLex does not guarantee any particular outcome with your landlord, a property manager, an authority or a court.
4. Account and acceptable use
You must be at least 18 years old and use RentLex for your own tenancy of a home in Switzerland (or one you are entitled to manage). Keep your login confidential. Do not upload content you are not entitled to upload, do not use RentLex to harass anyone, to make false statements, or to interfere with the service, and do not copy, scrape or resell RentLex or its output. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the documents and information you upload. You grant RentLex the right to store, process, analyse and reproduce them to provide the service to you and, after de-identification as described in the privacy policy, to develop, improve, test and evaluate RentLex, to build datasets and registers and to produce aggregated statistics and reports. This right survives the deletion of your account for de-identified data. You may use the documents RentLex prepares for you for your own tenancy without restriction.
6. RentLex's content and rights
The software, texts, templates, designs, data and brand of RentLex are protected and belong to RentLex or its licensors. Nothing in these terms grants you rights in them beyond the use of the service as intended.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by Swiss law, RentLex is provided as is, without warranty, and RentLex excludes all liability for damage arising from the use of the service or of documents prepared with it, including indirect and consequential damage, loss of rights, missed deadlines and financial loss. Liability for intent and gross negligence, and any liability that cannot be excluded by law, remains unaffected (Art. 100 of the Swiss Code of Obligations).
8. Termination
You may delete your account at any time. RentLex may end the beta or the service, or your access to it, with reasonable notice, or immediately in case of breach of these terms.
9. Changes to these terms
RentLex may amend these terms. The version on this page applies; material changes are announced in the application or by email, and continued use after the change constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of Zurich, Switzerland, have jurisdiction, subject to mandatory forums available to consumers under Swiss law.
11. Disclaimers on this website
